What Is "Artumentary?"
Artumentary is a way to bridge the gap between documentary style (or photo journalism) and fine art photography. The whole process includes the authenticity of capturing real, raw moments and interfering with the scenes as little as possible while making genuinely artistic choices, both in-camera and during the editing process. The sessions lean toward documentary-style so that I can capture your truest emotions present in each moment, but posing is sometimes warranted to make the most artistic photo we can. The editing process is where an important facet of the "fine art" element in: this is where I have the honor of sculpting your story through artistic and very intentional editing choices.
In the end, you have a gallery that showcases the epic beauty of your life, peppered with moments that would otherwise have gone unnoticed and been forgotten forever.

How do you tell a story through photos?
Every exchange between two people, no matter how fleeting or simple, speaks volumes. Often times, when we are immersed in a moment or a day or a season of life, we are unable to notice the smaller moments or movements. Or sometimes we quickly forget things or emotions. During a photo session I am able to capture facial expressions or hand movements, etc., that would otherwise go unnoticed. I then take the images and treat each like a sacred piece of art and the result is an image that evokes and embodies a memory or tells part of a whole story. Once you receive your gallery, artfully and intentionally edited, it all fits together to showcase the story and you recreate and remember the day or the month or the years that those photos represent to you. As you look through and reminisce, a story emerges. It's your story and it's so beautiful. I just have the honor or collecting and compiling the elements.

Whatever kind of session you need, I will seek out the humanity and depth in the story that we're telling together. My presence is fairly hands-off (though posing is an art, too!) and my editing style is unique; every photo deserves its own special touch.
