Artumentary Photographer

I got into professional photography because I basically never put down my camera (and annoyed people *sorry not sorry*) until I realized it could be a real job and I could make it authentic. Now people seek me out to do something I love.

I've been doing this now for over 15 years, and I've learned to bridge the gap between my technical brain and my art brain to deliver you the best gallery and so that I enjoy the process. This is a win for both of us.

My favorite thing about photography is the simple act of freezing a moment in time. Choosing which moment to freeze and how to do that is where the first part of the art comes in.

Artumentary feels like the perfect way for me to embrace and use all of my photography talents. As a painter and creatrix I tend to get lost in the art of the moment (design, colors, lighting, etc). So when I have a camera in my hands I am more concerned with the framing and form of the shot over the perfection of the pose (though I will always offer body composition tips, especially where I feel like it will make the final piece of art look better) or the technical side of things. This allows me to deliver to you a gallery full of real-life, genuine, and intentionally-edited images to treasure forever.

I live my life trying to stay fully present in every moment and I make photos with the same philosophy. Every session is a million moments put together. I believe that every person has beauty to give and that our stories should be savored and preserved.

Artumentary

It's really important to me to be authentic with photography. In this social media age where so many are "posing" I long to capture to the real, raw parts of life. Art is not about perfection. People want to feel happy and see their lives as genuine and sacred, and that's exactly what I do:

I will witness your story and reflect it back to you through fine art.

I will coach, pose and suggest as artistic scenes present themselves, and that's when I start creating on the fly. I have found that trying to plan a session too much can take away a piece of authenticity. I'm all about the real.

“Absolutely wonderful experience; it was lots of fun. Hope was spontaneous and had an eye for good spots. Highly recommend!”

When I'm not working...

I'm a mama and we live on a cozy little island near Seattle. You can usually find me with my four-year-old at the beach playing with sticks or in the forest hunting for mushrooms and hugging trees. I also enjoy reading juicy novels, watching documentaries about Ancient Egypt, counting the stars, gardening, playing poker, tarot readings, painting mountains (and also hiking up them) paddling on my SUP, ecstatic dance, sleeping in my hammock, philosophizing with my boo, or otherwise just musing in awe over the fact that any of us exist in the first place.
